The Red Sox and A's pulled off a trade deadline blockbuster. The A's are hopeful that they can make World Series run and have strenghtened their rotation, but at what cost?
Sure the A's get Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes, but they gave up a young talent in Yoenis Cespedes.
Gomes is aging and Lester is a free agent that the A's will likely not sign. He has also stated that if he was traded he'd be open to resigning with the Red Sox.
The deal may work out short term and bring the A's a ring. Or it could be another year where a team gets hot at the right time and ends up beating the better team.
It's a gamble and one that probably works best for the Red Sox long term.
