The Phillies Are Doing Their Best To Ruin The Mets Postseason

Yoenis Cespedes was hit by a pitch during tonight's game against the Phillies. Early reports are that Cespedes has bruised fingers and no broken bones.

Cespedes has been a huge part of the Mets second half surge to the NL East title. If this slows him down in any way it could be a huge problem for the postseason.

The Latest Andrew Luck Excuse, His Shoulder Is Injured

The Colts are 1-2 on the season and could easily be 0-3, escaping Tennessee with a narrow victory. That wasn't expected at all.

There were a lot of people picking the Colts to go to the Super Bowl before the season. They haven't looked at all like a Super Bowl team.

The problem? If you ask people you'll hear a plethora of excuses- it's the offensive line, the defense isn't very good, there is no running game, he's a caveman. Maybe.

But what about how bad their quarterback play has been? Yep Andrew Luck is to blame. Luck hasn't played well at all. He's thrown 7 interceptions in 3 games. Luck continuously makes poor choices and forces too many throws.

Now there is an excuse for this weekend already. Luck has an injured shoulder. So if he turns the ball over and plays poorly it will be because he's not 100%.

The Colts are just a bunch of whiners and they're really becoming an easy team to root against. They did, along with the Ravens, start this deflategate nonsense after all.

ESPN Is Paying Jon Gruden $6.5 Million A Year

Yes that Jon Gruden. Awful Announcing is reporting that Gruden is the highest paid on air personality after his annual salary was tweeted out last night.

There are several personalities who just re-signed lengthy contracts who could and should be in that range – Davis, Fowler, Bilas, Herbstreit, Van Pelt, etc.

But according to ESPN scribe Jim Miller – there’s one man that stands above the pack…

Miller tweeted this last night, revealing that Gruden makes around $6.5 million per year, the highest paid salary for an on-air personality.

ESPN is paying Gruden $6.5 million? For pretty much Monday Night Football. He does his QB Camp and those other little projects as well.

But you have to figure the bulk of the money is for MNF. It's just completely mind blowing.

Golden Tate Said The Opponents Know What Plays The Lions Are Running

The Detroit Lions are off to an 0-3 start. It's been a rough start for the Lions.

Golden Tate revealed one of the reasons he believes they've struggled. The other teams know what plays they're running.

During Tate's weekly radio interview with Detroit Sports 1051, he said players on opposing teams told him they know what plays they're running, via Detroit Sports 1051:

I haven't heard that yet from that player. I didn't read anything about it but that's not the first time this year that another player has said that. I've had a couple occasions in literally each game, where they called out our play for one, then afterwards been like "hey, we knew what you guys were doing". I don't know how they know or what film they're watching that we're giving away...that's something we got to go back and watch our tendencies to figure out where we line up or how we line up or what formation or whatever it may be. We've got to figure it out because we're clearly giving away. All three weeks, a player's come up to me and said "we knew what you were going to do." That's bad.

Looks like they must have gotten their hands on those Bill Belichick tapes. Or he isn't the only one who tries to figure out what plays other teams are running.

The Dodgers Blank The Giants, Win The NL West

Clayton Kershaw was his normal regular season dominant self on Tuesday night, as he shutout the Giants. The one hit shutout wrapped up the NL West for the Dodgers.

Kershaw looked very sharp as he prepares for the postseason.

Oh Good! The NFL's Appeal Of Brady's Overturned Suspension Will Be Heard The Week Of The Super Bowl

The NFL has successfully kept the deflategate story alive into 2016. The court ruled against expediting the NFL's appeal.

That means that Tom Brady will be guaranteed to play the entire season without being suspended. It also means that the appeal won't be heard until February 1st 2016, the week of the Super Bowl, via ESPN:

The decision, filed Tuesday, ordered the NFL to file its opening brief by Oct. 26. Brady's attorneys and the NFLPA need to answer by Dec. 7. The NFL, which gets the last word in its appeal, has until Dec. 21 to reply.

The appeal then will be heard as early as the week of Feb. 1, 2016.

Congratulations NFL, the biggest story will be hitting the same week as the league's biggest game. Way to go.

All for nothing. What a waste of time and money.

A Former NFL Kicker Trashed Alex Smith Last Night

Former NFL kicker and Kansas City Chief, Lawrence Tynes, trashed Alex Smith for his performance in last night's loss to the Packers. Tynes called for the Chiefs to put in the backup QB and referred to Smith as the "check down master."

Tynes continued by mocking Smith's inability to get the ball in the hands of his receivers. He even brought up the 2012 NFC Championship game when he was a member of the Giants and Smith was on the 49ers.

Let's be real for a minute a kicker criticizing a quarterback is a little silly. But Tynes did still manage to pull off a very funny troll job.

Gregg Popovich punked the ever loving hell out of a reporter. I guess he's preparing himself for the regular season too.

The reporter was clearly knocked off his game by the grumpy head coach. Even after revealing he was giving him a hard time the reporter looked beyond frustrated.

Cardinals Outfielder Knocked Out Cold After Violent Collision

St. Louis Cardinals outfielders Steve Piscotty and Peter Bourjos collided in the outfield going after a shot in the gap. Bourjos caught the ball and Piscotty caught Bourjos' knee with his head.

Piscotty was laying on the field motionless after the play with what looked like blood running out of his mouth. It was definitely a scary moment as Piscotty had to be carted off the field.

Three Games Into The Season And The Bears Are Throwing In The Towel

The Chicago Bears traded away two members of their defense for a pair of sixth round draft picks. The Bears dropped to 0-3 with a shutout loss to Seattle on Sunday.

A game that they got to see just how bad they are without Jay Cutler. A loss is a loss but they didn't score at all because Jimmy Clausen was under center.

So the Bears have thrown in the towel and are already looking to the future. They traded defensive end Jared Allen to Carolina and linebacker Jon Bostic to New England.

They received a pair of sixth round picks.

Cam Newton Claimed Ed Hochuli Told Him He Wasn't Old Enough To Get A Call

Cam Newton made some waves following the Panthers win over the Saints on Sunday. Not for his choice of clothing this time.

It was something he said in his post game press conference. Cam claimed that Ed Hochuli told him he wasn't old enough to get a late hit call, via Black And Blue Review:

“I was rolling out trying to string out the play and create some kind of opportunity to get a completion. The defensive lineman kind of hit me. It was close, right on the cusp, late hit, I don’t know.

“The response I got was: ‘Cam you’re not old enough to get that call.’ . . . I didn’t think you had to have seniority to get a personal foul.”

Of course Hochuli denies saying that to Newton. But clearly whatever was said struck Cam as unusual. You can by his reaction to speaking with Hochuli.

I'd like to believe that a referee wouldn't say that. But I also believe he said something he shouldn't have because of Cam's reaction.

The Nationals Suspended Papelbon For 4 Games Without Pay For Choking Harper

Matt Williams spoke to the media today and announced that the Nationals have suspended Jonathan Papelbon for four games without pay. Because you know he choked Bryce Harper.

Williams also claimed that Harper was being taken out of the lineup for today's game. I say claimed because all indications are that Harper had the day off anyway.

If you listened to Harper talk about the incident he kept saying he was looking forward to the last six games and including today's game there are seven on the schedule.

After these last handful of games I expect the Nationals will be holding a press comference of their own. You know officially sending Williams packing.

Drew Brees didn't play on Sunday and there might have been more going on than a bruised rotator cuff. I think he needs to be checked for a possible head injury.

I get it, he doesn't know how to just stand there and watch, because he's never missed a game due to injury. But come on. He was breaking the huddle as if he was on the field.

Ben Roethlisberger Expected To Miss 4-6 Weeks

After leaving yesterday's game after a shot to his lower left leg, Steelers fans probably thought Ben Roethlisberger's season was over.

That does not seem to be the case with initial reports coming in Sunday night that he has a sprained ligament in his knee and a bone bruise.

That has to be good news if you're a Steelers fan. It looks like Michael Vick will only have to keep Big Ben's seat warm for 4-6 weeks.

Brandon Marshall Pulled Off The Worst Jets Play Since The Butt Fumble

Late in the second quarter of the Jets 24-17 loss to the Eagles, Brandon Marshall pulled off the worst Jets play since the infamous butt fumble. Marshall himself called it, "probably the worst play in NFL history."

While I wouldn't say that, the play is pretty bad.

The Jets were down 17-0 at the time late in the second quarter. Marshall had just caught a pass for a 15 yard gain. As he was going to the ground he attempted to lateral the ball to a teammate.

Instead of the ball going to his teammate, it hit an Eagles defender in the helmet and the Eagles recovered the ball. That setup another Eagles touchdown before halftime and proved to be the deciding score.

So It Turns Out Peyton Manning Can Still Throw The Deep Ball

Despite all of the football world losing their mind about Peyton Manning's early season struggles and his arm strength, he proved he can still throw the deep ball. He hit Demaryius Thomas with a deep pass on 4th and 1 before halftime.

I'm sure there will be plenty of haters that aren't impressed with the throw. But for a guy they're trying to say is finished, it was a pretty good pass.

Plenty of arm strength and plenty of accuracy.

Bryce Harper Is "Just Ready For The Next Six Games" After Papelbon Incident

Bryce Harper was, of course, asked about the dugout fight with Jonathan Papelbon. For the most part he refused to answer the question, repeating some form of this answer that, "I'm just looking forward to the last six games."

The media kept asking and he kept up the rehearsed response for most of the interview. Harper finally broke down and answered a couple of the questions.

When asked if Papelbon told him he was wrong he said, "he apologized, so whatever, I really don't care."

Harper continued, "It's like brothers fighting, that's what happens."

After the comment about brothers fighting, he was asked if he had ever fought with a teammate before to which he responded, "used to fighting the other team."

Clearly Harper is over the whole situation and appears to be over the whole Nationals season. They're not going to the playoffs and it's not because of Harper.

He hit the cover off of the baseball this season. With six games remaining he's hitting .336 with 41 home runs and 96 runs batted in.

Bottom line Papelbon is just a dick.

Hot MMA Fighter Had To Change Weight Class Because Of Her Large Breasts

29 year old chef to MMA fighter, Brye Anne Russillo, had to move up weight classes because of her 12 pound breasts. She'll be fighting in the 150 pound weight class at the Aggressive Combat Championships on October 3rd.

The fight was originally scheduled to be a 145 pound fight, but Russillo had trouble dropping the extra weight and blamed her large breasts for the difficulty, via My MMA News:

“I can’t cut my tits off and put them on the side, they weigh 12 pounds"

Not only does she have large breasts for an MMA fighter she's also hotter than most. If she could win a few fights and make a name for herself, she could go places. She has superstar written all over her.

The Seahawks pulled off a trick punt return against the Bears. It was the trick punt return that the Rams ran on them last season.

The play where a guy acts like he's fielding a punt but another guy actually does. The other guy in this case was Richard Sherman.

Sherman had a pretty good return until the punter tackled him.

Jonathan Papelbon is still a dick. He and Bryce Harper exchanged words in the dugout following a Harper at bat. I guess it wasn't a simple how do you do.

Papelbon reacted just as you'd expect his empty head to. He attacked Harper by choking him. Probably not the smartest thing to do if you were planning on returning to Washington next year.

He's probably not planning on that. Teammates choking each other is the perfect way to close out the Nationals season.

It looks like Michael Vick is going to get more playing time than the Steelers had planned on. Ben Roethlisberger left the game with a nasty leg injury.

Big Ben is a tough guy, but he dropped immediately after this hit and you have to think it's a significant injury.

Tom Brady threw his 400th touchdown pass to Danny Amendola. Brady is only the 4th quarterback to reach 400 touchdown passes.

Jim Breuer and a bunch of Mets fans in Colorado celebrated the Mets division title at a Buffalo Wild Wings. It's a completely insane scene, you'd think they were in New York.

Mets fans should be ecstatic with the NL East title. Before the season nobody gave them a shot at winning the NL East.

The Mets have been one of the hottest teams in the second half of the season. The real test will be to keep it up throughout the playoffs.

The Mets have a real shot at going to the World Series.

Mike Trout Just Made The Catch Of The Year

Mike Trout waited to the last week of the regular season to make the catch of the year. He climbed the wall and reach back over the fence to rob Jesus Montero of a home run.

It's just an insane catch. Trout is really good at robbing home runs and he tops his catches with each new catch.

Lance Berkman Is Spending His Retirement Trying To Tell Transgender People What Bathroom They Can Use

It looks like retired MLBer Lance Berkman is staying busy. He recently filmed an ad for Campaign for Houston, which appears to be a Houston area homophobic organization.

In Berkman pretty much does a formal "hide your kids hide your wife they raping everybody out here" commercial. It seems there is something up for a vote in Houston to allow transgender people to use the bathroom of the sex they identify with.

Spend your retirement anyway you like, but I think there is better use of your time. The idea that there is something wrong with transgender people is ignorant as hell.

But again, if you want to spend your retirement advocating for discrimination that's on you.

It's going to be a long day for Jacksonville.

Texas Lost Again Because Of Their Special Teams

Texas punter Michael Dickson fumbled a snap and kicked a negative six yard punt that setup the game winning field goal for Oklahoma State. It was a perfect snap he just let it slip through his fingers.

It's the second straight week that Texas' special teams unit has let them down. Last week their kicker missed an extra point that would have tied the game ans setup overtime.

Texas is now 1-3 after the loss. That is a tough way to lose back to back games.

West Virginia Receiver Caught A Touchdown And Then Trucked A Maryland Cheerleader

It was a rough day in Maryland. West Virginia beat the football team and their cheerleaders.

The West Virginia receiver was completely cold blooded on the play. Scored the touchdown ran right through the cheerleader and didn't even check on her.

Nobody was safe in Maryland today.

The Cubs Celebrated A Wild Card Berth Like They Won The World Series

The Cubs are officially in the postseason. They will get to play in the one game playoff game in the National League.

So of course they celebrated like they won a World Series. This proves they're not used to winning in Chicago.

You'd think that this was the team's first playoff appearance in 100 years the way FOX covered the celebration. The last time the Cubs were in the playoffs was 2008. But FOX kept the cameras rolling and on air while they did interviews.

They're a Wild Card team, big deal. With all of this hype about them making the playoffs as a Wild Card team, I hope they lose the one game playoff.

For reasons only know to the folks at ESPN they had a couple of the guys get into an ice bucket.

During the segment Rece Davis got a little silly and did the, "what are those?" viral thing.

Jimmy Rollins Got In A Stare Down With Joe West

A day after Joe West got into a stare down with Madison Bumgarner he got into another one with Jimmy Rollins. Although the Rollins stare down had a lot less tension.

Rollins hit a triple and when he went to ask for time from West, he paused for a few seconds and stared at him. Rollins then cracked a smile.

Gotta give it to Jimmy this is pretty funny and took some quick thinking on his part. Unless of course he planned on hitting the triple so he could stare West down.

Mookie Betts Saved Rich Hill's Shutout By Robbing A Home Run To End The Game

The Red Sox are wrapping up a terrible season. So shutout saving catches is all they can give their fans to cheer for.

Mookie Betts robbed Chris Davis of a home run, like the 5th time he's had a home run taken away this season, and saved Rich Hill's shutout to end the game.

It really is a pretty good catch.

The NFL Still Thinks Tom Brady Will Serve A Four Game Suspension This Season

If the story that Craig Carton told this morning on his radio show is true, the NFL still thinks Tom Brady will serve a four game suspension this season. Why in the world would they think that?

Because they're all psychopaths.

The fact that the NFL is pursuing this thing further is the most insane waste of time in the history of the league. Never mind the fact that if the courts do come back and reverse the ruling and Brady does serve a four game suspension, then Brady will serve the same amount of games as a player who was accused of roughing up a woman and tossing her on guns.

Way to go NFL. I'm glad to see you still have your priorities in order.

The Yankees Paid Tribute To Yogi Berra

Last night was the first home game for the Yankees following the death of Yogi Berra. So of course they paid tribute to the former catcher and manager.

As you'd expect it was an emotional scene for the players that knew him and the fans that loved him.

RIP Yogi.

Madison Bumgarner was not happy with a couple of calls from umpire Joe West. He let out a following a walk and West decided to staredown Bumgarner.

That's right he came out from behind the catcher and stood there staring at the big lefty. He delayed the game a few seconds and made the game about himself.

He's a terrible umpire and he needs to go. People didn't pay money to watch you stare at the pitcher.

Retired sideline reporter and WAG Samantha Ponder still knows how to dress and her knee high boot look is taking us into the weekend.

While her sideline days are over and likely her status as wife of an NFL quartetback, we'll still see plenty of Sam Ponder. ESPN is still going to have her appear on College Football Live, SportsCenter and College GameDay.

Somebody has to work now that her husband Christian Ponder is without a roster spot.

MLB Commissioner To Rule On Pete Rose Reinstatement By The End Of The Year

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred met with Pete Rose today about Rose's reinstatement request. Following the meeting the MLB announced that the Commissioner will be ruling on the reinstatement request by the end of the year.

The Lawyer For The Patrick Kane Accuser Quit

Reports have surfaced that Thomas Eoannou, the attorney for Patrick Kane's accuser, has quit the case. This was announced just a few hours after Eoannou held a press conference claiming evidence tampering.

Those claims are now believed to have been fabricated. The false claims coupled with the accuser's unwillingness to testify lead to Eoannou's decision to quit, via The Chicago Tribune:

Thomas Eoannou...announced late Thursday that he no longer believed the account provided by the mother and therefore was ethically obligated to withdraw from the case.

It's kind of a no no to lie to your attorney. I am also pretty sure he didn't like the fact that he held a press conference based on false information.

I'm not going to call the accuser a liar, becasuse only she and Kane know what really happened. But this latest development isn't going to help her any.

Clayton Kershaw Argued With Don Mattingly After He Was Removed From The Game

Who knows why Don Mattingly removed Clayton Kershaw after 5 innings and 80 something pitches. But he did and Kershaw was not happy at all about it.

At the time Kershaw was removed from the game the Dodgers were losing 3-0. They scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th and got Kershaw his 15th win of the season.

A Pitiful Number Of Fans Sent The Redskins On Their First Road Trip Of The Season

Seven fans showed up to send the Redskins on their first road trip. Only seven.

High School teams have bigger road trip send offs. Sure it's mostly the family and friends of the players, but the Redskins are supposed to be a professional football team.

The saddest part of the whole thing is the Redskins posted the video of their big send off. I guess seven is par for the course for their road trip send offs.

Jonathan Papelbon Is Still A Jerk

Jonathan Papelbon hit Manny Machado with a pitch because Machado hit a home run to give the Orioles the lead. He then cried like a baby because he was tossed.

The team everyone picked to go to the World Series before the season started isn't going to make the playoffs. And they're playing and acting like a team that doesn't have a shot at the playoffs.

Good to see Papelbon is staying true to himself. What a jerk.

Girardi Is Happy With The Wild Card

Joe Girardi didn't manage last night's series finale with the Blue Jays as if he was coming after the AL East title. He managed as if he's okay with taking home a Wild Card spot.

It a 0-0 game in the top of the 6th inning he pulled starter Ivan Nova after a two out walk. Girardi brought back to back September call ups and the Blue Jays scored a run in the inning.

Sure Nova had 110 pitches but he was rolling and pitching out of trouble all night. If the Yankees would have won the game they could have pulled within a game and a half of the Blue Jays and put some pressure on the AL East crown.

Instead Girardi is content with the Wild Card and didn't bring in anyone with more than 9 major league appearances in that critical 6th inning.

The Blue Jays essentially beat Scranton-Wilkes Barre because those were triple A pitchers who should not have been in the game in that situation.

Enough is enough Girardi must go.

Vikings Head Coach Said Philip Rivers Is One Of The Best QBs Of All Time

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said Philip Rivers is one of the best quarterbacks of all time. He seriously said that.

Rivers has been a pretty good quarterback so far in his career, but there is no way he's one of the best QBs of all time. If I was in the Vikings front office I'd recommend that Zimmer be fired immediately.

It was ridiculous enough when Jerry Jones claimed that you wouldn't see a more gifted passer than Brandon Weeden. But at least he's on his team.

Lawyer For Patrick Kane Accuser Claims Rape Kit Was Tampered With

The rape kit from the Patrick Kane sexual assault case was found on the doorstep of the accuser's mother. It was opened and empty according to her lawyer, via Puck Daddy:

“In my 30 years plus of being both a prosecutor and a defense attorney, I have never seen an evidence bag outside of a police lab, a prosecutor’s office or a courtroom – let alone find one in the doorway of a rape victim mother’s home,” said attorney Thomas Eoannou, who called a press conference to ask for an independent law enforcement agency to investigate the breach.

Kane hasn't been charged with a crime and is currently attending Blackhawks training camp.

It looks like Kane has a few friends in high places. Friends willing to tamper with evidence and intimidate witnesses.

Kam Chancellor Ends His Holdout

Kam Chancellor has decided to end his lengthy holdout and return to the Seahawks without a new contract. The Seattle safety sent a text to Stephen A. Smith to announce his return, via ESPN:

"Ima go help my teammates that are understanding of my position and the ones who aren't," Chancellor said in the text message. "God forgives all, why can't i? Time to help us get back to the big dance. I can address business after the season. Me and Marshawn started a mission 2 years ago. I can't let my Dawg down....Real talk."

Chancellor now has to help his team dig out of an 0-2 hole. They did miss the hard hitting, versatile defensive back, but the Seahawks have other problems.

Johnny Manziel Is Heading Back To The Bench

Josh McCown has been cleared to play this weekend and will start. That means Johnny Manziel is heading back to the bench.

Despite the fact that Manziel lead the Browns to a victory last week over the Titans.

Kobayashi Eating A Goat To Reverse The Cubs Curse Is The Dumbest Thing You'll See All Day

Kobayashi and his competitive eating buddies teamed up to reverse the Cubs curse. Yes they ate a goat.

You won't meet a more desperate group of sports fans than the Cubs faithful. Maybe Browns fans.

I know it's a publicity stunt for all involved, but it's a stupid one and I hope this goat puts an even stronger curse on the Cubs.

New York Yankees Hall of Fame catcher Yogi Berra died at the age of 90 on Tuesday night. The 10 time World Series champion was one of a kind and will be missed.

Greg Bird Homered In The 10th To Lift The Yanks Over The Jays

Greg Bird hit his 10th home run as a Yankee last night and none of them were bigger than that one. The 3 run shot put the Yankees ahead by 3 runs in the top of the 10th inning.

Bird picked up Andrew Miller, who in the bottom of the 9th blew the save by allowing a solo home run that tied the game.

It was a good win for the Yankees who are now only 2.5 games back in the AL East.

Miesha Tate Is Unhappy With The UFC

Miesha Tate is unhappy that the UFC decided to not give her another shot at Ronda Rousey. Tate has by far been Rousey's stiffest completion. With that said Rousey beat Tate both times.

The UFC is searching far and wide to find a fighter to give Rousey some problems. So far they haven't found that woman.

We'd all love to see Rousey vs Tate III. But I think we'd like to see what some of the other fighters have to offer too.

Tate will likely get her third shot one day. Right now though, Dana White is trying to find someone else to give Rousey a fight.

Matt Cassell Traded To The Cowboys For Future 5th Round Pick

The Cowboys added a quarterback to their roster after their number 1, Tony Romo, went down with an injury. They picked up Matt Cassell from the Bills for pretty much nothing.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made an appearance on radio station 105.3 The Fan and spoke about Dallas' current quarterback situation. From the interview it looks like Jones has a lot of faith in Brandon Weeden.

In fact Jones said, "you won't see a more gifted passer."

Now you most certainly will see a more gifted passer. There are a lot of NFL quarterbacks who are more gifted passers.

But to Jerry's defense, what is he supposed to say?

Jason Pierre Paul is back in the weight room. The injured defensive lineman posted a video of himself bench pressing with a towel on his injured hand.

A good sign for JPP as he works to get back on the field. But he clearly has some strength to build back up.

A High School Football Player Rubbed Icy Hot On An Opponent's Face

What the hell is going on high school football fields? Just this season there has been kids taking cheap shots at a referee, a kid hitting a kid in the head with a helmet and now icy hot rubbed on an opponent's face.

It's getting to be a true fight to the finish on America's high school football fields.

How does a kid have enough icy hot during a play to rub on someone's face? And why would you do that?

I bet that this one will another order from a coach attached to it. High school football coaches are an insane group of people.

Colts Mascot Has An Odd Missed Field Goal Celebration

The Indianapolis Colts followed up a poor week one game against the Bills with another crappy performance against the Jets. For the first three quarters the only thing the Colts had to cheer for was a missed field goal.

The Colts mascot made the most of his opportunity to celebrate and might've changed the mascot celebration game.

Sean Payton Denies Reports That Drew Brees Could Miss Several Games

Saints head coach Sean Payton went on a radio show on Monday night and said the report that Drew Brees could miss several games were inaccurate. During his weekly appearance on the show he said they would have a better idea of Brees' condition on Wednesday, via New Orleans Saints:

"I would say his report is inaccurate. Wednesday we will have a better idea. We will be smart. I thought coming off the game, it’s a tough loss for everyone. You lose your home opener in a division game. Drew battled and hung in there. He took some hits. We will have a better feel on Wednesday with where he is at. (Bobby) knows as well as anyone, he’s going to be a competitor and he’s going to be smart about it. I think we will have a better idea come Wednesday. I would definitely say that. I read the report you are discussing and I would say that’s inaccurate.”

Payton is probably putting on one of those coach bluffs. Because Brees was injured and is at least facing the possibility of being out for an extended period of time.

Whenever you have an MRI there is something going on.
